The Demons of Adulteration

Sigil of Belzebuth - Grand GrimoireThe first Demon of Adulteration was a Shedite of Beelzebub who had thought to join with Kobal after it’s first Superior died. Baal had other ideas, and conscripted the Demon of Adulteration to assist in The War effort. Few demons had as much direct experience with Purity’s mindset as one of Corruption’s wordbound servitors. Who’s Number One?

2017 was the Liber Neglecta’s 5th year online, and the second year of (mostly) continuous posting. As the year draws to a close, I thought now would be a good time to look at who has topped the chart as most popular Angel or Demon.

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse may not have shown up as part of In Nomine’s Revelations cycle, but that does not mean that they need to be absent from the setting. After all, In Nomine is the sort of the game that encourages an Apocalypse of the Week.

There are a few different ways of handling the Horsemen.

One is that the Horsemen are Demon Princes:

  • The White Horseman: Makatiel originally, but now Nybbas
  • The Red Horseman: Baal
  • The Black Horseman: Haagenti (with Mammon in reserve)
  • The Pale Horseman: Saminga

While this is a fairly simple and easy to implement approach, it adds nothing to the setting. Another possibility is that the Horsemen are all Wordbound Servitors of particular note – but this is also somewhat limiting, as it locks a specific demon into each role.

Theosophie & Alchemie

The songs that follow are powerful. If In Nomine were a more balanced system, I would probably want to conduct play testing before proposing them. Instead these can be though of as draft ideas, please feel free to modify them as you see fit.

Elemental Numinous Corpus don’t just change one aspect of the body, they transform the entire body, bringing multiple advantages and disadvantages. Liber Canticorum includes two versions of this type of song; Numinous Corpus (Flame) and Numinous Corpus (Stone). Both were Secret Songs.

With this in mind, I have decided that all Elemental Numinous Corpus will be Secret or Forgotten, depending on which Superior(s) know it. Continue reading →

Sigil_of_Lucifer.svgAccording to Heaven, there were no demons before The Fall. If true, that means that each Band began somewhere. In some cases there is canonical guidance, in others we are left to our own devices, and in a few there are even some competing signals.

By teasing out these hints and differences, we can get an idea of what some of the earliest factions of hell might have been. Whether this is used as deep background, an alternate setting for games set near the dawn of time, or as a way to pick out new “hidden” powers seeking to emerge I leave as an exercise to the GMs in the audience. Leonard, Habbalite Demon Prince of False Gods

Leonard“Have you seen the world? No one god could have made this mess”

Shortly after the fall there was not one but many demon lords who turned to the exploration of the Marches. While Beleth was far and away the strongest, Leonard was one of the most clever. While the rest of Hell was embroiled in its civil war, the fallen Elohite Marquis of Beelzebub led a company of knights from the Order of the Fly into the far realms in an effort to corrupt the gods who lived there and convince them to steal human faith.

notes

Leonard is a non-canon superior. See Former Demon Princes.

If God would not stand by his angels, Leonard would punish him by getting others to take his worship. If humans did not stand by god, they deserved all the hardships the lesser gods of the Marches would impose upon them. It was an equitable and poetic solution to the Habbalite who hoped the lord of heaven would recognize the loss of the essence and thus see the error of His ways.

Legion, Second Demon Prince of Corruption

“I am Legion, for we are many”

Legion could be anyone. Legion could be everyone. He was the quintessential Shedite Prince and a perfect villain for a high paranoia/assimilation game.

Centuries ago, the demon who would become Legion and his Superior Saminga performed some truly hellish experiments upon a captured Kyriotate; slowly grafting Legion’s forces, one-by-one onto his heavenly counterpart while forcing it into a multitude of vessels. Eventually one, or perhaps even both of them cracked and Legion gained the ability to possess multiple hosts.

Beelzebub from Shin Megami Tensei

Beelzebub from Shin Megami Tensei

“The world is rotten, exploit it while you can”

Beelzebub was always something of an enigma. A great Djinn Prince who ruled alongside Lucifer and Baal until he stuck his neck out a little too far and got it lopped off by Uriel. It is assumed that he fell from heaven like the all of the first princes – but if so his discord was so great that none have been able to figure out who he was originally. Most think he was a great Cherub of Jordi, some think he served the enigmatic Archangel of Death, and a few whisper that he is no demon at all, but an Ethereal God posing as a Prince of Hell.
