Althoug the great serpent Caorthannach is supposedly dead, it is likely that she is really just sealed by recurring pilgrimages the the lake where St. Patrick bested her. After all, death is a recurring part of her story. Before being bested by Patrick, Conan was her foe, and other heroes before him. With every death her blood gives Lough Derg it’s “dark” name.
Before Lawrence and Patrick came to her lake, Caorthannach most frequently faced off with Heroes and Dream Soldiers in service to the goddess Eriu, lead goddess of the Tuatha de Danann. Continue reading
