Althoug the great serpent Caorthannach is supposedly dead, it is likely that she is really just sealed by recurring pilgrimages the the lake where St. Patrick bested her. After all, death is a recurring part of her story. Before being bested by Patrick, Conan was her foe, and other heroes before him. With every death her blood gives Lough Derg it’s “dark” name.

Before Lawrence and Patrick came to her lake, Caorthannach most frequently faced off with Heroes and Dream Soldiers in service to the goddess Eriu, lead goddess of the Tuatha de Danann. Continue reading →

The world is defined by want. Heaven and man both want it but neither can have it, for there is not enough.

During the war in heaven Thamiel did not fight beside Lucifer, nor did he fight beside Michael. He sat out the war and used the chaos to visit parts of Yves‘ and Eli’s Cathedrals that had previously been barred to him. Like many angels, Thamiel was interested in God’s Grace – but his passion was its excess and absence.

While the other angels were locked in mortal combat, Thamiel was studying the various sights furthest from god’s sight. As the war in heaven drew to a close, Thamiel bought himself amnesty by presenting his findings to Raphael (who was looking for a place to put the rebels).

Sigil of Vepar - Goetia

“The sea is a world of its own, why limit the worlds that you walk?”

Vephar is a case study in the hazard of impatience. As one of the Elohim Ofanim he was granted the word Sailors. Like all gifts from the Lord, it was Good – but not good enough for Vephar. At the dawn of man there were no Sailors to speak of. Vephar felt swindled (though, of course, there was not yet a word for how he felt), so he claimed the Seas for himself in spite of what God had to say about it.

Curiosity, Deceased, Habaa, Impudite, In Nomine

habaaEven before the fall Habaa was insatiably curious. When not serving Eli, the Mercurian would poke around through the unfinished parts of the Symphony wondering how “sound” or “fire” or “distrust” might fit together once everything was set in motion.

When Lucifer questioned the elevation of man, Habaa was right there with him. How could monkeys who weren’t even clever enough to question impossible instructions without guidance possibly be capable of acting as lord over the Angels?

It was a joy for the young Habaa to help the Morningstar find others who would question the Word.

Leonard, Habbalite Demon Prince of False Gods

Leonard“Have you seen the world? No one god could have made this mess”

Shortly after the fall there was not one but many demon lords who turned to the exploration of the Marches. While Beleth was far and away the strongest, Leonard was one of the most clever. While the rest of Hell was embroiled in its civil war, the fallen Elohite Marquis of Beelzebub led a company of knights from the Order of the Fly into the far realms in an effort to corrupt the gods who lived there and convince them to steal human faith.

notes

Leonard is a non-canon superior. See Former Demon Princes.

If God would not stand by his angels, Leonard would punish him by getting others to take his worship. If humans did not stand by god, they deserved all the hardships the lesser gods of the Marches would impose upon them. It was an equitable and poetic solution to the Habbalite who hoped the lord of heaven would recognize the loss of the essence and thus see the error of His ways.

Lucefuge Rofocale, three horned demon with quill

Lucefuge Rofocale, unknown artist

The world belongs to the best of us.

According to Lucifuge, he is the Head of Hell’s Government – named by the Dark Prince himself in recognition of The Rofocale’s competence. None of the other Princes agree with that particular interpretation, though it does amuse Asmodeus does play along from time to time.

Lucifuge was something of an oddity in heaven. A coward who would do his best to hide from the high and mighty, especially such luminaries as Metatron, Yves, Michael, and Lucifer. If there was a way to dodge the limelight (and the responsibilities it entailed), Lucifuge would take it. It is not a strategy that served the Redeemer particularly well, and when the rebels fell he was kicked out right along with them for his refusal to take up arms.

Leviathan and BehemothThis world should have been mine!

Somewhere deep in the depths of the Mariana Trench once lived one of heaven’s greatest mistakes. Some call her a dragon, others a whale, but Leviathan was actually one of the Symphony’s oldest Nephilim. She lived her life as far from the activities of angels as she could, fearful of their power yet coveting it for herself; despising humans yet wishing she could share in the love and freedom lavished upon them.

The world is constrained by chains of rage

In the beginning Kezef was an Elohite of Gabriel assigned to work with Dominic and Asmodeus in developing the concept of justice. He was fair minded and played a major part in balancing the twin impulses of retribution and rehabilitation.

Kezef was too absorbed in his work to pay much attention to the Eden experiment, and the rebellion caught him completely off guard. As an angel of fire and judgement the betrayal felt like a personal, physical attack. Before the armies of heaven had even taken the field, Kezef was losing himself out in the front lines striking a blow against the traitors.
Kezef
It came as something of a shock to him when it was Lucifer’s army that pulled him from the fray and tended to his wounds. Somewhere in the battle he had lost all sense of objectivity and unintentionally embraced existence as one of the Habbalah.
