It’s time to continue our roster of angelic names plucked from the pages of Gustav Davidson’s Dictionary of Angels. I had originally intended to divide the Angels of Children and the Angels of Creation into two different posts, but this does not actually make sense. Childbirth is an inherently creative act, and every single angel associated with children from Davidson’s text gains that association through the fact that it is invoked during childbirth.

If you are using this list to find angelic names for In Nomine it’s worth considering that every name on this list that can be considered for a Servitor of Christopher can also be considered for a Servitor of Eli (though the reverse is not true).

“Eli” by Trows

Eli by his very nature is still stuck in the moment of creation. Time would be meaningless to the Archangel, but he knows that he created it, which means both that the past exist and that it must have been something he did in the past. All that really matters to Eli is now and what he’s making in the now.

D’Vashel, Angel of Honey

D’Vashel is a golden, viscous, crystalline, languid, protean, cloud of over a trillion fondly reflected memories. They are collectively the syrup of over fifty million sunny days refracted through the pollen of myriad genus of plants, many of which no longer exist.

To such a being, the hegemony of heaven is irrelevant. D’Vashel is as likely to visit the Ethereal halls of Asgard or a Banquet in the Infernal Duchy of Sugar as they are to pay call upon their patrons Novalis and Jordi, or their ancient friends Gabriel and Michael. And all of these are far more likely to receive a visit than the rigid ones like Jean or Lawrence.

It is little wonder, then, that the creationer D’Vashiel and those who follow them are often subjects of intense scrutiny from Dominic and the Angels of Judgement.

Zavatel, Angel of Milk

Zavatel is a tutelary angel who oversees the milk produced by livestock, especially that which is gathered for human consumption. Her celestial form is that of a living being whose four quarters resemble a goat, a cow, a sheep and a yak. Like all cherubs, she takes her role as protector very seriously, and considers both children and livestock to be among her wards. As a result, both Jordi and Christopher have allowed Zavatel to act in their service when Eli abandoned his heavenly cathedral.

As the industry linked to Zavatel’s Word has changed, so has she. It is not at all uncommon to find her studying vacuums and refrigeration in the Halls of Lightning or trading essence and favors in Marc‘s exchange to ensure that dairy farmers and their stock could continue to survive and thrive.

Shakira, Malakite Angel of Gratitude

Although she is a blackwing, Shakira is a genuinely warm and welcoming angel. As the embodiment of Gratitude, she appreciates everything in creation. The inequities of the world tend to roll off her back unless written by an infernal author.

Shakira worked closely with Uriel in creating the Malakim. While she disagreed with the purity crusades, she still views Purity as a blessing and mourns the archangel’s retreat from the first heaven.

There are some words which might not be that powerful based on their impact in the Real World, but because of the additional meanings they take on within the context of In Nomine they can equal or possibly even exceed some of the great powers.

Dream, Primordial Chieftain of the Marches

Dream is canonically one of the four Primordial Chieftains of The Marches. Alongside Myth, Imagination, and Hypothesis he gathered the mists together an placed great stones to protect the future seedbed of fantasy from the surrounding chaos.

I have often suggested that a Sandman crossover into In Nomine would be both possible and interesting. I therefore leave it as an exercise for individual GMs to decide whether or not the Primordial Chieftain Dream and Dream of the Endless are one and the same.

Either way, Dream is one of the most powerful beings in the Marches. Easily the equal to Beleth and Blandine who he sees as equal parts emissary and interloper.

Kitron, Malakite Angel of Soul-Making

Kitron is something of a lone wolf. They are a Creationer who is wordbound to the belief that evil is necessary to bring out the best in mankind and in making souls suitable for heaven. When Lucifer fell, Kitron felt their Word come upon them, along with the realization that the rest of heaven would not be understanding of their truth.

When Uriel called for angels to take up the Mantle of Malakim, Kitron waited only long enough to avoid any suspicion. Once their new vows were in place, Kitron was freed to lie about the source and purpose of evil in the world.

Heresy of the Vacant Throne
