This has been one of the quarter-century updates I have been least eager to write. Partially because my interested in the Egyptian gods hit its zenith some time in Elementary school, and partly because even now most of the information I can find on the worship of the Pesedjet (Ennead) and other Egyptian gods comes through a British colonialist lens.

The formal ancient worship of Heliopians ended in the 14th century BC when Akhenaten (Amenhotep IV) officially replaced the pantheon with the monotheistic worship of the sun god Aten.

I’ve been thinking a bit more about the demons that appeared in the Netflix adaptation of The Sandman.

Having a collection of demons can, in many ways, make it easier to convert them into In Nomine characters, because we can compare them against each other. I discussed them briefly last week, but here they are again. This will involve some spoilers, so if you are planning to watch The Sandman and haven’t done so yet, I’d suggest you do so before continuing.

With that in mind, I’ve pulled together a selection of Angels and Demons who could be used as avatars of the disease and its impacts.

Sansfiltre was a promising Habbalite Project Manager overseeing one of the many border territories between Vapula and Nybbas. On the advice of both princes and under the supervision of he Demon of Etymology, Lucifer granted the powerful technocrat the dark Word of Revelation.

Rather than being the elevation to Princedom that Sansfiltre had expected, his new word tore at him and abraded him. He could feel Lithroy. Feel the call to share the truth of god’s kingdom with the masses. But more than that he knew that the masses were unworthy.

During last month’s post on foods that outpriced gold I mentioned that I was considering a deep dive post on cattle as part of my project to pick out new Dukes of Gluttony. What I hadn’t fully realized is how much of a “grab bag” the post would be. Breeds, cuts, and preparations renown for their popularity, price, or flavor are all going to get at least a mention.

First Thing First

Cattle

“Cattle” itself is an interesting Word. At the moment it means “domesticated bovines,” but previously it was used interchangeably with livestock. This implies a Demon who was once much more powerful than they are today. Assuming this demon was old enough to have fought in the rebellion, my choir suggestions for animals would suggest that they are a fallen cherub.

However, that’s only relevant to this Word. Those that follow came into use or popularity after The Fall, so there isn’t a similar need to match band to choir.

Tengu Mini Guide

Steve Jackson Games has never provided In Nomine stats for a kami or ayakashi, so there there’s no clear examples to model from. That said, I’m in favor of PC Ethereals starting on comparable footing with their Celestial counterparts.

I would suggest that the “typical” lesser tengu (or kotengu) start at 7 Forces, the “typical” greater tengu (or daitengu) start as a 9 Force Awakened God.

In Nomine Tengu 👺

Tengu in the In Nomine universe are part of the August Prosperity Collective. This means that any tengu outside of Japan will owe a debt to Nybbas.

Real World Tengu 👺

Tengu have undergone a number of transformations over the past 1000+ years. In the 9th & 10th centuries, tengu stories resembled other yokai tales. They were bird-like trickster spirits who played mysterious music in the woods, threw pebbles at houses, and possessed the illiterate (granting them abilities beyond what was expected).

What About Trump

Today is Donald Trump’s last full day as president, though not necessarily his last day being active in the United States political sphere. Even before the January 6 insurrection in the capitol he was easily the most controversial president in most of our lifetimes. He is simultaneously viewed by some as god’s servant on earth and by others as the most publicly an inveterate liar to ever hold the highest office in the United States. Both of these would merit him a place within an In Nomine cosmology, but what role that is would be almost diametrically opposed depending on which outlook you share.

Nyamok, Lilim Demon of Cleavage

Nyamok was one of Media’s rising stars, but quickly earned his enmity when she connived behind the scenes to have Andrealphus buy out her contract from Lilith. She’s doing her best right now to stay in the mortal realm until Nybbas‘ ire runs its course (he’s got a bit of a reputation for losing track of things that are no longer newsworthy).

Nyamok likes to pretend like her rebelliousness comes from the Word she shares with Shapinah, but the truth is that while the two are rivals, the words they’re bound to only sound alike to mortal ears. For that matter, Nyamok will also considers most any angel, demon, ethereal, or mortal with shapely breasts to be both a rival and her legitimate prey.
