Themes linking the mechanical and the divine go back to at least the Greek classics.
Givens how Vapula pursues his word, and the increasing progress that humans have made towards integrating the mechanical into themselves and their world, the Prince of Technology would almost certainly be researching ways for his demons to do the same.
Vapula has replaced his Dukes with Department Heads, Counts with Lab Directors, and Marquis with Project Managers. While the more traditional Princes do not see the need for the alternate titles, they do appreciate the ease with which Technology’s hierarchy integrates with the peerage.
However, the change is not just an affectation. Each Department is a full administration in its own right, with it’s own subdivisions and research goals. Not only do the Heads have the power of a Duke, but by encouraging his researchers to self-sort, Vapula has actually hit upon a system which allows demons to work together reasonably well (at least when they’re not engaged in plagiarism or industrial sabotage).
ReZ has only just earned hir horns. Ze does hir best to hide this fact under hir hat. It would never do to let other demons know how new ze is to all of this. As an imp, ReZ was little more than a sentient song manual, and ze would hate to be treated the same way now that ze has fledged. Continue reading
Penemue never fell. It was all a giant misunderstanding.
She loves humanity. There’s nothing wrong with love. It’s one of God’s guiding principles. Even the angels still in heaven will tell you that. So maybe she taught the mortals she cared for a bit more about medicinal compounds than Jean and Novalis though was appropriate.
And maybe as a young Elohite she spent some evenings in the bed of her most promising students rather than keeping an eye on the Grigori as she was charged. These things happen when you truly love the divinity of man over the divinity of heaven. But Dominic declared she could not return to heaven and the other Archangels backed him, and so she has not returned.
“Lichtenberg” has left the service of Hell and is trying to Redeem. She has even managed to secure Jean as a sponsor on the strength of some intelligence she could possibly share (Lichtenberg previously served Alaemon and spied on Vapula). Unfortunately, the information has been locked away by a Seal of the Confessional.
Once Lichtenberg ascends to heaven, she will be able to share it. Unfortunately, as a demon she can’t – and while Jean could cut away Lichtenberg’s corrupted forces, doing so would risk losing the very information that makes the demoness valuable. Instead, the pair have teamed up to try and re-teach Lichtenberg how to be selfless and surrender herself to the moment.
This one can still remember the time when it was many, flitting from dream to dream – helping mortals lose themselves in their fantasies. It was all bollocks.
Mankind has always been closer to the angels than one ever really wanted to admit. A bit of gold and tantalum, some clever programming, and humans can create “dreams” for each other without ever needing to sleep. This one was nervous when Vapula proposed the jump from laptops to tablets – but now this one is glad it was one of the first.
The pages for the following infernal courts are now live:
This concludes my initial pass a hierarchical listing of the various demon courts. I will make minor edits in an ongoing basis (not the least of which will be reviewing Revelations II and the Ethereal Player’s Guide to see if there are any Ethereals who are officially a part of Beleth’s court).
Now that this is done, you will probably start to see some more posts suggesting variations to the various infernal courts and/or guidelines on how to populate them in a consistent manner.
One of the more recognizable aspects of Vapula is that he is the only Superior who outright bans a Band or Choir from serving him. The official reason is that Vapula doesn’t want the chaos that surrounds them to upset his experiments. However, this problem is very easily solved: don’t let them get close to the experiments.
If you don’t like the official line, perhaps you can find an appropriate way to include Calabim of Technology among the following options.
